T-Mobile Offers Customers 500GB Google One Plan for $5 Per Month

T-Mobile’s latest customer perk is extra cloud storage from Google.

Through a special promotion starting Oct. 12, T-Mobile (and, by extension, Sprint) post-paid customers can get 500GB of Google One cloud storage for an extra $5 on their monthly bill after a 30-day free trial.

While paying $5/month for a 500GB plan isn’t a monumental discount for T-Mobile subscribers, it is a unique offer. Google doesn’t offer a 500GB plan directly through its Google One service, instead going from a 200GB plan straight to 2TB plans and beyond. The pricing of the T-Mobile plan is a fair value at least, considering Google’s 200GB plan is $2.99/month or $29.99/year, so subscribers get more for their money with the 500GB plan.

People can opt for a 2TB plan through T-Mobile too, but they’ll still pay the same $9.99/month price as regular Google One subscribers.

T-Mobile is also throwing in extended free trials for Google services like YouTube Premium and Stadia, plus up to a 10% credit back for purchases through the Google Store.

T-Mobile customers can sign up via the carrier’s website or app, in person or by dialing 611 to reach customer service. Sprint customers who have not yet switched to T-Mobile can sign up via the T-Mobile Tuesdays app for Android (call Sprint Care for iOS) any time before Dec. 31.

Google One offers extra storage for Gmail, Google Photos, and Google Drive. Prolific Google users may be more in need of Google One these days, as Google got rid of unlimited free storage on Google Photos and Docs earlier this year, instead applying the 15GB of free storage everyone gets to include Photos and Docs.

The promotion may be coming in anticipation of the launch of the Pixel 6. Though Pixel phones are exempt from the Google Photos limit, that only applies to photos uploaded in High Quality (aka Storage Saver quality), which is 16MP. T-Mobile may be positioning the 500GB plan as a perfect fit for new Pixel 6 customers who need a solid helping of affordable cloud storage.
